FilletsFillets add depth and richness to a piece without having to introduce another color to the design. When used as a mat liner the fillet physically lifts the mat away from the artwork creating depth in the artwork. Fillets can be placed on single, double or triple mats. In a image to the right the fillet is used to seperate two colors of mats which causes your eye to naturally move inward toward the artwork. Fillets can be used on photographs, prints, and limited edition pieces. They add interest to the piece and allow it to stand out. We offer a large variety of fillets and can find the right one for your particular piece of art in order to create a unique design that accents your art work. With the antique map to the right we put a greenish gray mat under the fillet to give greater dimension and to accent the same tones in the map. The use of the fillet ties the frame in and pulls everthing together. |
Fillets can also be added to the inside lip of a frame to add uniqueness to a frame. Sometimes a touch of gold or silver is just what a plain black frame needs to give that special framing project a "pop". In the image to the left we are adding a dark walnut fillet to a lighter frame. The mats we used on this project were of a medium tone and the fillet helped reduce the contrast between the mat and frame. |
