Fabric Mats Occasionally the type of matting needed to set off a piece of art work will be a fabric mat. A fabric mat brings texture to a framing project that adds both interest and elegance to the art. The types of fabrics include suede, linen, silk, leather and burlap. Each texture provides a distinctively different look. The colors of fabric mats tend to be more vivid than regular mats because of the natural properties of the fabric and how they absorb and reflect light. V-Groove A v-groove is a channel that we cut on the surface of a mat that allows the core color of a mat to show through. This is a great way to add depth to a framing project without adding a second or third mat. In the image to the left the intercore of the mat was white giving the illusion that 2 mats of the same color were used.
